Enjoy the Fleetwood Recreation Facilities this Winter

It’s already gotten pretty cold out there in Fleetwood. Families have begun to limit their outdoor activities in response, preferring to bundle up indoors when possible.

Fortunately, those who live on Fleetwood real estate have countless opportunities for fun, healthy physical and cultural indoor activities within our many community programs. The Fleetwood Community Centre alone offers an extensive list of possibilities in Surrey’s 2016-2017 Winter Recreation Guide. These choices include sports like basketball, classes like cooking lessons, activities like clay modeling and a variety of senior activities.

At the Surrey Sports & Leisure Complex, also located in Fleetwood, residents can enjoy swimming in the 50m indoor pool or skating on one of three full-size hockey rinks. There are also special events going on all throughout the season, so do not miss your many opportunities to have fun this winter!

Activities and Classes at the Fleetwood Community Centre

The Fleetwood Community Centre offers a wide variety of programs, and these programs provide particular value if you intend to obtain a certification this season. You or your children can expand your skills and possibly even job opportunities through classes certifying you in CPR, babysitting and fitness leadership.

Badminton and outdoor tennis are going on all the time in the Centre in addition to many ongoing unstructured activities, so take advantage of drop-in times for youths, adults and seniors to enjoy activities every day.

For more serious lessons, you or your children can gain skills in guitar playing, watercolour painting, clayworks, ballet, knitting, cooking and more. As just one example, the “Snack Attack” classes teach children from ages 6-13 how to prepare their own nutritious and delicious snacks.

The Fleetwood Community Centre has a fitness gym, which provides drop-in workout times as well as structured classes. One program parents may love is the “Gym Time before Bedtime” class for toddlers aged 18 months to 4 years old. These classes let them get their energy out through healthy exercise you take them home to lay down for a restful sleep.

Day camp programs involving many of these activities are widely available, too, so make sure to consult the guide for both after-school and winter break camp programs in art, dance, sports and more.

Seniors will love the Fleetwood Community Centre’s weeklong nightly activities, which include ballroom dance, bingo, bridge, canasta, cribbage, Seep (in Punjabi), curling, and Mandarin/Cantonese socials.

Surrey Sports & Leisure Complex Activities

The Surrey Sports & Leisure Complex at 16555 Fraser Highway offers even more excitement and fun this winter.

Most notably, the complex boasts an arena with three full-size skate/hockey rinks and a full-size indoor swimming pool. These facilities provide the backdrop for classes that include skating lessons, swimming lessons and lifeguard certification. The larger 10,000 sq. ft. gym also adds on advanced equipment and more diverse classes compared to the Fleetwood Centre’s, including a dedicated yoga/pilates studio.

As you can see, there is no shortage of fun, exciting and healthy things to keep both you and your family busy in Fleetwood this winter. Make sure to review the Recreation Guide as well as your opportunities to live even closer to the excitement by looking at my Fleetwood home listings.
