The Best Times to Tackle Remodeling Projects

May is upon us, which means that summer is right around the corner! Many people at this time of year start to look towards the important home improvement and maintenance projects they’ve been wanting to tackle and may have been putting off. Check out the best time of year to tackle various home remodeling projects for your house and how it can increase the value of your Fleetwood real estate.

When Is the Best Time to Renovate My Home?

This is a common question that people ask. When is the right time to tackle that kitchen remodel, bathroom renovation, room add-on or other remodeling project? While the best time is whenever you’re ready to get going, there are times that are better for various phases and saving costs.

Winter Remodels: January to March

Winter remodeling can be uncomfortable, especially when working outside. Many people don’t consider starting to build an addition in these months, especially considering how hard it is to dig in frozen ground.

In truth, however, frozen ground is much better to work with when it comes to digging foundations and pouring concrete. Because it’s hard it doesn’t give the same problems as mud and humidity do. It also allows you to get the space under protective cover before the rainy season starts. Finally, builders tend to be less busy in the winter so you’ll save some money.

Spring Remodels: April to June

Spring remodeling can be very expensive as it’s the busy season for renovation services and home builders. On the other hand, you might be able to get special deals as they try to increase business even further. In general, spring is a great time to tackle projects like patios, decks and outdoor spaces that require hand-dug pits. You’ll also finish the project in time to enjoy it for summer and fall.

Summer Remodels: July to September

Summertime is great for tackling those indoor remodel projects. You get to work in the air conditioning and don’t have to swelter in the outdoor heat. When it comes to outdoor jobs, though, roofing is often good to do in the summer, due to the need for high temperatures for roof sealant materials. If your family lives elsewhere in the summer months — a summer home — you also may want to remodel your regular house while you’re away.

Be prepared for delays in outdoor work, however, as builders will cancel if it gets too hot. This will be out of concern for the safety of their workers.

Fall Remodels: October to December

The last quarter of the year is the best time to begin new construction and outdoor projects. Like springtime, weather in the fall is moderate and cool, but unlike spring, there’s far less rain to worry about. Also, as the holidays approach, builders work harder to wrap up their work, meaning your project might get done faster. Since this is the time when work starts to slow, many contractors offer special deals and lower rates that can save you money.
